Kathleen comes to the firm with a wealth of accounting and tax experience, concentrating on a wide range of tax issues. Kathleen worked as the head of the payroll operation for the entire University of Notre Dame, where she had responsibility for a wide range of tax compliance matters including international payee issues.
Before entering law school, Kathleen taught Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting full-time at the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame.
Kathleen has been involved in the IRS’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program for domestic and international taxpayers for many years, part of which she served as the head of local programs. Kathleen continues to be committed to community service and will be leading the firm’s efforts to establish the Veteran’s Tax Assistance Group project.
Kathleen graduated With Honors from McGeorge School of Law. During law school, Kathleen earned three prestigious Witkin Awards, in Corporate Income Taxation, Taxation of Real Estate Transactions, and Mediation.
She holds an MBA (Taxation) With High Honors from the University of Notre Dame and a BSBA (Accounting) Cum Laude from the University of Louisville. Kathleen began her collegiate work at the United States Naval Academy.
Kathleen is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and the United States Federal District Court for the Eastern District of California. Kathleen clerked for the Honorable Morrison C. England Jr. before graduation from law school, where she assisted the judge with a broad range of legal matters including federal tax issues. Kathleen will work with Ryan and Steve to further develop the MTL international tax compliance practice as well as the firm’s full range of State and Federal tax controversy practice.
Kathleen was recently selected to serve on the prestigious Mendoza Graduate Alumni Board for Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. She is also very active in her local Notre Dame alumni club, serving as club Treasurer. Kathleen has completed seven marathons and currently is training for her second half-marathon. She lives in Davis with her husband, Michael, and has two children, Andrew and Emily.
 Kathleen’s work at MTL is limited solely to the practice of law, and her CPA accreditation from North Carolina and Indiana is currently inactive.
